Delta Jazz Orchestra
The Delta Jazz Orchestra plays big band hits from the Swing and Jazz era circa 1920 through 1960. If you like Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, the Dorsey brothers, Charlie Parker, Glenn Miller, and Duke Ellington, then you’ll be in the right place. DJO is an orchestra in the style of the Big Bands of yesteryear: We employ trombones, trumpets, saxophones, a rhythm section (drums, guitar, piano, bass), and a clarinet every now and again.
Who We Are
Well… primarily, we are players from the Delta Community Band that like to branch out and play a little dance music on the side. There are a few different needs in instrumentation, particularly in the rhythm section, so we aren’t a strict subset of DCB, though players are encouraged to participate in both ensembles.
When and Where Do We Rehearse
Rehearsals are most Monday evenings at 6:00 – 7:00pm — prior to our concert band rehearsal. We practice in the same place:
